The Spanish Leather Goods Manufacturing Industry in 2020. Figures.

From an economic perspective, 2020 was a particular year. During the first quarter of 2020, there was a certain recovery in the economy. However, in April, it plummeted as a result of the world declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdowns and restrictions declared by governments were the factors that affected the world economy. Today, we would like to share some figures about the Spanish Leather Goods Manufacturing Industry in 2020.

Every year, Asefma publishes the data of the sector. As the result, annual production registered a fall of 10,49%, reaching the figure total of 1.887,70 million euros. Regarding the number of companies, there is also a fall -2,09% registering a total of 1.602 compared to the 1.636 registered in 2019.

On the other hand, exports and imports have also been affected. Exports have fallen 15,47% in 2020 that represent 44,61% of the production. Imports have also registered a very important decrease, with a difference of 407 million euros between 2019 and 2020.

Bags are the most produced accessories (59,97%) followed by small leather goods (13,72%) and betls (9,53%).

Regarding sales abroad, our main buyers were:

• France it accounts for 26,14% of exports.
• Italy with the 8,68% of exports.
• Japan, 6,75% of exports.
• United Kindomg, 6,34% of exports.
• China, 6,30% of exports.
• Portugal, 5,6% of exports.
