How was the Leather Goods Manufacturing Industry in 2020?

From an economic perspective, 2020 was a particular year. During the first quarter of 2020, there was a certain recovery in the economy. However, in April, it plummeted as a result of the world declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdowns and restrictions declared by governments were the factors that affected the world economy. On the other hand, exports and imports have also been affected. Exports have fallen 15,47% in 2020 that represent 44,61% of the production. Imports have also registered a very important decrease, with a difference of 407 million euros between 2019 and 2020.

Bags are the most produced accessories (59,97%) followed by small leather goods (13,72%) and betls (9,53%).

Regarding sales abroad, our main buyers were:

  • Italy with the 8,68% of exports.
  • Japan, 6,75% of exports.
  • United Kindomg, 6,34% of exports.
  • China, 6,30% of exports.
  • Portugal, 5,6% of exports.
