New materials: Mushroom Leather

We live on a planet with limited resources, so Science is looking for alternatives materials to use in the future. That’s why we want to talk about one of our favorite topics. New materials: Mushroom Leather.

The Californian biotechnology company Bolt Threads created Mylo as a new sustainable alternative material. This company formed together with iconic and well-known brands such as Adidas, Kering, Lululemon and Stella McCartney. Mylo is made out of renewable mycelium, the structure of the root of mushrooms. The material is soft and substantial bio-base, which means it’s made predominantly from renewable ingredients found in nature.

Stella McCartney was the first fashion brand to use this material for their collections. This announcement lead the brand to a great exposure on Media as it meant a big change on the use of traditional materials. Brands like Stella McCartney, which are committed to sustainability, are also being recognized by customers around the world because of decisions like this.

The Fashion Industry is always looking for greener alternatives that help our environment. Thanks to the fusion of fashion and technology, new materials, processes and techniques are born. Furthermore, these new and vegan materials drive the fashion industry towards a more sustainable future where new public can be represented by the ethos of the Brand.
