In a previous post, we spoke about The Leather goods Manufacturing Industry in Spain. This week ASEFMA has published new details about our guild.
According to the last annual directory in 2018, the production increased by 1.90% with 2.061,87 millions of euros. This increase is visible in areas like Ubrique, where well known luxury brands have returned to manufacture here after moving their production to Asia.
Exports have grown a little with an increase of 0,41% and 952,3 million in 2018 versus 948,4 millions of euros in 2017, as you can see in the following image.
Bags are still the most produced articles with the highest percentage: 60,30%, followed by small leather goods with 13,4%, belts with 9,03% and other leather products with 16,33%.
In 2018, our main buyers were: France (294,50 millions), Italy (79,60 millions), United Kingdom (59,20 millions) and Portugal (56,20 millions – the only country with a negative result; -3,90%).
In 2017, there were 1.616 companies in Leather Goods Sector. In 2018, this number has grown in 1.624 companies, an increase of 0,49%.
With regards the number of companies per region (Spain), Andalusia is in first place with 429 companies, followed by C. Valenciana, Cataluña and C. de Madrid.
As a conclusion, in 2018, the Leather Goods Manufacturing Industry in Spain and the economic situation have been relatively better compared to 2017. This can be thanks to our great standing in quality, savoir faire, tradition and design. Luxury and High end brands look for these main skills and Ubrique is the perfect place where they can produce these articles.
