It’s so cold for us in London today… we have come here for some meetings and to do some research. We are happy to find out that many of the best-recognised fashion brands and designers in the world have “Made in Spainleather goods in their collections. It is also very pleasant to see that the shop windows are showing the products that we have been seeing in the workshops in Andalusia for the last couple of months… So proud about it

British designer Tortie Hoare has created beautiful pieces by mixing two organic materials (leather and wood) and much of her proven creativity. Her furniture designs have been made using the process of shaping the boiled leather (learn more about the leather moulding technique here). See some pictures of her designs below.

Today, we want to show you a good example that Leather can be applied in many different fields. Molami is a Swedish brand that makes headphones designed from a fashion standpoint. Molami’s headphones feature nappa and stingray leather that gives the item an exclusive and luxurious mood.  “Wearable sound” is the concept behind everything they do as they pay meticulous attention to the details of every single part of each pair of headphones.

Today, we want to present you a video interview with a leather goods expert who is currently working for Coach Leatherware (USA), Iñaki Xalabarde. The interview deals with many different topics and especially with Iñaki’s point of view about leather goods and leather goods manufacturers in the global world. We hope you enjoy it.

Many people that are not familiar with the leather goods industry may wonder about how they can recognise high quality leather goods. The majority of consumers cannot distinguish between high quality leathers, mid-quality leathers and non-leather materials (PU leather-like materials). The same happens with the construction and finish of leather items. Should consumers know about this? Since they are lacking this knowledge… Should someone show them how to “evaluate” a leather product?… Could this be counter-productive for certain brands?

We strongly believe that knowledge is power. We like informed consumers that not only look at the emotional part of the product (mainly the brand), but also appreciate the details and the other tangible aspects of the leather product. Therefore, manufacturers and brands must work together in order that this message can get to final consumers. We should also train our sales force in this kind of things. A balance between emotional and tangible sales pitch… Don’t you think so?

Our second post of this new series “Leather Goods that we Delight”  is dedicated to the new Comme des Garçons wallets collection. The “Very Black” wallets collection goes in the opposite direction after the recent presentation of the “Flashy Metallic” wallets collection. Everything in the collection is worth mentioning… matt black premium cow leather, black zippers, pullers and stitching and, of course, the hands of Spanish leather goods manufacturers.

Several months ago, we published some general figures about the leather goods manufacturing industry in Andalusia (Spain). Now, we want to publish some more figures about the industrial activity in Andalusia, paying especial attention to the figures about exports in the province of Cádiz and the leather goods manufacturing industry. We have also made some charts that will clarify this.

Today, we start a new series of post. The “Leather Goods that we like” series deals with the leather items that, from our point of view, have something to say in terms of the item itself and the concept behind it. We will also try to give the point of view of a leather goods manufacturer.

For this first article, we have selected the Céline iPad case Box.  This iPad Case gives a step beyond what we have seen so far. The accurate selection of the materials and a proper construction makes this item be one of the most gorgeous iPad Cases in the market (and also the most expensive… some $ 3,000). It also features the gold iconic branding of Céline, which gives the item a subtle touch of distinction.
