Most of the input that we receive from brands dedicated to the design and manufacturing of leather goods refers to the value of craftsmanship, tradition and the fact that their products have been handmade one by one using the “most genuine” leather. After not much thought or reflection one may think that there may be some minor changes and/or “imperfections” as part of the “one-by-one” making process. However, these minor “imperfections” are not always accepted and understood by buyers/clients… So, … where is the value of handmade leather goods? Is it in the ability of the leather workers to make handmade copies? Should clients accept these minor imperfections?

Today, we want to show collaboration between two traditional industries, Leather & Carpentry Industries. This project started some months ago within the framework of a project led by IES Carlos III , a local Training Workshop. The Project tries to strengthen bonds between these two guilds so that they can share techniques and ideas for better-made products.

The pictures and the video below show the making process of ash table with leather wrapped panels. We hope you enjoy it…

According to Merriam-Webster, Heritage is “Something transmitted by or acquired from a predecessor. Legacy. Tradition”. The fact of having the heritage and skills is crucial to make high quality leather goods. However, this might not be enough. Traditional Industries must be at the forefront of modern communications and digital marketing. Not only must they realise the importance of heritage, craftsmanship and quality, but also innovation and the prioritisation of the customer.
