The answer to the first question is Yes, there are bad leather goods manufacturers… in Spain and in other countries, of course. The answer to the second question is No, quality is only one of the aspects in order to claim whether a leather good manufacturer is good or not.

After much seeing, making, trying and especially as a first person witness, I have found that many Spanish Leather Goods manufacturers have the skills to make good quality leather goods but many others lack other important features that a modern supplier should have.

21st Century citizens demand 21st Century services and the Fashion Industry is not an exception. 21st Century designers and fashion houses look for 21st Century leather goods makers and suppliers. This has to do with being updated about the trends and what the leaders of the market are currently doing. It also has to do with transparency in the relationship with customers and openness to new ideas. Empathy, enthusiasm and willingness are critical features too.

Something to add?… Happy to know

The more we travel, the clearer we see that leather goods manufacturers in Spain are amongst the top three most reputed countries in leather goods manufacturing. Not long ago, we had the opportunity of visiting London on a business trip. By chance, we met a well-known Paris-based fashion stylist as we were having diner at a restaurant.

The conversation turned into leather goods manufacturing in the high-end fashion industry. It was very nice to listen to him stating that most top fashion houses look into Italy, Spain or France in order to manufacture their leather goods. It’s is very restorative and heart-warming that the hard work has produced results… Anyway, there’s space for improvement…

In a previous post we wrote about the origins of the leather goods manufacturing industry in Ubrique (Spain). On that post we highlighted the key factors for the development of an industry whose foundations are the “Savoir-faire”, determination and passion of the workshops, factories and leather workers.

After many years of history, the fashion designers and brands that visit our studio and workshops realise that those features are still present. From the point of view of “the product” itself, merging design and know-how in a proper way is the essence to create luxury leather goods. This is basically what we have been doing for the last 4 years, which has turned out to be very satisfactory for all the parties.

Most of the people that visit us usually say “the whole Leather Goods Manufacturing industry in Ubrique has got so much to offer to international customers”

Is there anything more gratifying than helping someone make their ideas and dreams come true? These are the foundations of a long lasting relationship. We strongly believe that this also applies to business and the leather goods manufacturing industry is not an exception for this.

It’s also very gratifying to be able to build a relationship beyond business. Of course this does not happen instantly and one cannot forget that it’s business what brought you together. However, doing business within an atmosphere of trust and positiveness is very beneficial for the project itself since all the ideas flow without any restriction.

That’s why we really enjoy doing what we do.We are lucky to work with the best team of leather goods manufacturers, pattern makers and suppliers…

Of course, it must be business… but why not fun too?

Busy times for Leather Goods Manufacturers now. Christmas is round the corner one more year. Some of the Christmas gifts that many people worldwide will receive are being made in Spanish Leather Goods Workshops. We feel proud to be a small part of it… Thanks for making it possible.

Very often, I have the tendency to address any subject from a professional point of view, rather than a “neutral” one. Not long ago, I was walking across an industrial area in Seville and could not help taking the photos below. It was one of the buildings that belonged to the Universal Exposition in Seville in 1992. When I saw it, some type of brushed leather came to my mind. Really liked the ombre effect… It was very inspirational.

London, 6th December 2011

Dear Logbook,

It’s so cold for us in London today… we have come here for some meetings and to do some research. We are happy to find out that many of the best-recognised fashion brands and designers in the world have “Made in Spainleather goods in their collections. It is also very pleasant to see that the shop windows are showing the products that we have been seeing in the workshops in Andalusia for the last couple of months… So proud about it

4th October 2011

Dear logbook,

Today, we feel privileged. We had the opportunity of seeing the newest collections of some of the most recognised fashion houses in the world. We feel lucky to work in an area where the latest trends mixes with tradition and craftsmanship. Both realities coexist and feed on each other so that they are constantly learning something new. The leather industry in Andalusia is “alive and kicking”…

14th September 2011

Dear logbook,

Yesterday, a very good friend of us visited our sampling workshop  and some manufacturers of our area. Ironically, although we have known each other for more than two years, it was the first time he has been to Andalusia . Our good friend James told us during the diner that, as we already knew, he is a fan of our blog, but, before coming here, he could not imagine “how those people at the workshop work and make a wallet…” .” they are mad about what they do”. Finally, he added “actions speak louder that ‘written’ words”. He really encouraged us to keep on communicating the values of the leather goods manufacturers in Ubrique area. Many thanks, James. We won’t give up.

27th July 2011

Dear Logbook,

Today, we arrived in the factory and the faces of the leather workers were looking forward to the deserved break after a whole year of hard work in the leather workshop. We can see several cardboard cartons ready for shipment. They are separated in three different batches by destination. The manager has been absent from the workshop for the whole morning. He has been in the office. He must have been preparing the production plan for the end of August.  At 8 pm, the bell of the factory rang. All the leather workers wished happy holidays to each other while they were tidying their work tables. In a few minutes the workshop was in silence. As in a theatre, the house lights were dimmed. The next act will be performed in three weeks. HAPPY HOLIDAYS…
